Many think of Tokyo, being in Japan, and equate an architectural style more reminiscent of 'Old' Japan. The reality is that Tokyo Japan is Modern Architecture, rebuilt extensively after World War II. While Tokyo does still hold onto some it's Edo Period, pre-war heritage especially at Temples and Shrines for the most part it sets trends for modern design. The National Art Center is just one of many examples.
Leading architects that shaped, influenced, and built the post-war Tokyo include, Kenzo Tange, Kunio Maekawa and Junzo Sakakura. Major influencers of the Tokyo skyline closer todays timeline are Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, Toyo Ito, and Kisho Kurokawa among a long list of talented designers.
It's not hard to find tours focused exclusively on the architecture of Tokyo. Due to the wide range of offerings as well as individual tastes it's hard for Koi Waters Online Magazine to make a specific recommendation. One place that is recommended for all your Tokyo travel is the official tourism site, Visit Tokyo.
