Join us on a visual and documentary journey into the traditions of Japanese Gardens, Koi and Culture.
Our Vision

Koi Waters Online Magazine
Koi Waters Online Magazine is the work of photojournalist Kevin Warren. An ongoing exploration of Japanese gardens, the koi breeders of Japan, and travel in Japan.
What we cover
Japanese gardens: From renowned temple grounds to quiet private sanctuaries, with attention to design ideas such as water flow, stone composition, and borrowed scenery (shakkei).
Koi breeders of Japan: Stories about breeders, their farms, and koi, with a focus on the craft behind every “living jewel.”
Travel in Japan: Respectful journeys that honor etiquette, seasonality, and the lived character of a place. From the Golden Triangle—Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka—to rural communities, Japan has a lot to offer the experiential traveler.
Our lens
Koi Waters is photojournalism first: careful observation, accurate storytelling, and images made with respect for people, place, and tradition. We favor the old ways: we walk the path, pause where the view opens, listen, and let the scene speak.
Join us
If Japanese gardens bring you peace, if koi ponds make you linger, and if Japan’s craftsmanship and quiet pride keep calling you back—welcome.
Step with us into the gardens. Meet the breeders. Follow the waters where they lead.
