Driving into the Origin of Nishikigoi

Updated: Jun 26

This video is for both the unfamiliar and seasoned Nishikigoi Traveler.

For those who know the roads well—the seasoned visitors, buyers, and friends of breeders—perhaps you're longing to return. Maybe you miss the familiar rhythm of traveling up the mountains to visit places like Maruhiro, Izumiya, Yamaju, Marujyu, Marusada, Yagenji, Shintaro, Marushin, or others. Hopefully, this video offers a small taste of what you're missing.

To the uninitiated and the curious, enjoy the view. Experience what it feels like to be driving into the Origin of Nishikigoi along the hills of rural Japan. It’s beautiful in quiet, subtle ways. This is not a place of grandeur or castles on hillsides—it’s old Japan. Modest. Earthquake-tested. Still standing. Much like the koi farms it takes us too.

This is the first in a series of "Drives in Koi Country" launching on Koi Waters. I hope you enjoy the ride.
